EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Community Service Officer L. Lassard

Officer Leroy Lassard has been employed with the Mille Lacs Band Police Department since July 2002. Leroy began as a patrol officer in District II shortly after retiring from 21 years with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Department, then moved into his current role in 2003. He began his 32-year law enforcement career as a deputy with the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department in 1974.

Officer Lassard’s duties include managing the property/evidence room, ordering equipment and patrol vehicles, managing the fleet, overseeing animal control and dog registration, coordinating rabies clinics, and issuing child and infant car seats.

Officer Lassard was born in Duluth and has three daughters. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965, being assigned to the 3rd Marine Division, 9th Motor Transport during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained during an attack on Kah-San, South Vietnam on April 19, 1968. Though critically injured, he survived and was honorably discharged in June 1969.
