It was published by the
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians
of Onamia, Minnesota, and has been distributed to all public and private schools in Minnesota.
The comic book educates about tribal sovereignity and other American Indian themes. It is targeted toward fifth graders, but is appropriate for students in other grade levels.

Main Characters:
Mary
is a young girl who remembers conversations with her recently deceased grandmother. Through the Ojibwe oral tradition, Mary learns about her People’s history and beliefs from her grandmother. As she recalls these conversations, Mary passes on the vital lessons to her family.
Daataganabi (Gramma)
, who has recently died, appears in Mary’s memories. Gramma, who lived to be 95 years old, passed on the history and beliefs of the Mille Lacs People to Mary through their conversations.
Junior
, Mary’s older brother, has returned from the United States Navy to attend his grandmother’s funeral.
Sam
, the young and quarrelsome brother, wants to remove from the garage a model of the Mille Lacs reservation that Mary made with her grandmother so he can work on his car.
Len
Sr., a solemn father, encourages his children to settle their arguments fairly and logically.
