2010 Mille Lacs Band elections

2010 Election Guidelines

A primary election for Secretary/Treasurer, District II Representative, and District III Representative will be held March 30, 2010. This primary election will determine the two candidates for each office who will be on the ballot for the regular election on June 8, 2010.

To vote in the primary election, the following conditions must be met:
  • Enrolled member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
  • 18 years of age as of March 30, 2010.
  • Reside in a district of the Mille Lacs Reservation thirty (30) days prior to March 30, 2010.

If you do not meet the 30-day residency requirement or have never resided within the district areas of the Mille Lacs Reservation, then you must vote by absentee ballot.

To request an absentee ballot by mail:
Submit by mail or fax an Absentee Ballot Request Form to the General Election Judge. All information requested must be filled out in order for the Election Board to process your request in a timely manner. Absentee Ballot Request Forms [link to pdf] are also in the March issue of the Inaajimowin, at the front desk of each district community center and at the urban office. Completed request forms can be faxed to Deb Northurp, General Election Judge, at 320/532-7842.

Absentee ballots must be received by the General Election Board by 8 p.m. on March 30, 2010, by mail or hand delivery. A hand-delivered ballot will only be accepted by the Election Board from the person to whom the ballot was issued.

To vote by absentee ballot in person:
Voting in person by absentee ballot prior to the primary election will be at the General Election Office located at the tribal government center. Office hours from March 1-21 are from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., from March 22-29 are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on March 30 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
